How a Deposit Dispute Spiraled into a Legal Case Around Retaliatory Eviction, Falsified Documents, Mass Distribution of Personal Images Without Consent, and Legal Process Designed to Exhaust, Leading to the Birth of the Housing Justice Audit.

In August 2025, following a retaliatory eviction notice, we were forced to move during a severe heat wave. Thrust into chaos, Rocket ended up trapped under a couch for hours, whimpering in the dark, confused and terrified.

That whimper was the sound of a broken system.


The Crisis: Industrial Extraction vs. Human Dignity

Charleston is facing a housing crisis, but the root cause is a crisis of consciousness. Too many Property Management Investment Corporations (PMICs) operate on an "Industrial Age Extraction" model. They treat:

  • Tenants as disposable widgets.
  • Homes as mere asset classes.
  • Accountability as a cost to be minimized.

When we asserted our legal rights, the system responded with retaliation rather than remediation. They expected us to go away quietly. They were wrong.

The Mission: Conscious Stewardship

We are fighting to replace this extraction model with Conscious Stewardship: a management philosophy that designs systems from the "outside-in." We believe that secure shelter is the foundation of human dignity, not just a profit center.
